MISSION AZIZA/PE&CE is a progressive social entrepreneurship model committed to social, cultural, emotional, life, and critical thinking skills development to improve the quality of life of marginalized youth. Created as an outgrowth of affection and passion for young people, specifically girls and members of the LGBTQ community, AZIZA/PE&CE helps youth and young adults unlock their potential and become dynamic leaders, innovative thinkers, and public servants. VISION AZIZA/PE&CE is a non-profit organization whose vision is to create a safe place for youth and young adults between the ages of 12 and 24 in Baltimore City and the surrounding areas. We strive to drive social, innovative, and transformation in education, health, environment, and enterprise development by providing unordinary and impactful programming that empowers young boys and girls to reach their full potential by discovering their most genuine sense of self.
SERVICES AZIZA/PE&CE offers enrichment and mentoring programming committed to social, cultural, emotional, life and critical thinking skills development in youth and young adults ages 12-24. It is our philosophy to teach youth to first think, believe, and then empower her/him to see and maintain all that she/he wants for and in her/his life and community. We believe that empowering youth changes a nation. AZIZA/PE&CE does this through education, character, leadership, and entrepreneurial development, job readiness and employment opportunities. We serve as a solution to a significant problem by offering enhanced programmatic responses that integrate evidence-based trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive perspectives into youth serving systems and organizations. The program positively impacts school climate, attendance, and commitment to academic excellence. ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY AZIZA created in 2008, means precious, gorgeous, powerful and a reflection of a mother’s love. Named after the daughter of Founder, Saran Fossett, Nile AZIZA, the program is committed to youth development with a specific emphasis on girls. Saran started the program after spending years working in the fashion and education industries with the intent to offer girls resources and tools to become dynamic leaders, innovators, and public servants. In 2011, Shawn Lemmon joined AZIZA and created Positive Energy & Cultivating Excellence (PE&CE), , a program to engage marginalized male and female youth from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) community. Together, Saran and Shawn and the team at AZIZA/PE&CE, serve as leaders who create leaders, trailblazers, change makers, and dynamos. To ensure development, AZIZA/PE&CE engages youth in activities, events, and progressive, tailored curriculum involving fashion, fitness, arts, music, mentoring, entertainment, and education. The curriculum evokes critical thinking and teaches life skills such as healthy eating, financial literacy, decision making, the power of words and thought, priority, time, and quality management, and more. Thereby, contributing to knowledge, confidence, and perspectives that help them make their marks on the world wherever the future takes them. By engaging industry professionals, educators, and community partners AZIZA/PE&CE manages to develop youth, restore personal and family relationships, encourage parental and community engagement, impact school climate, and evoke a commitment to academic excellence.
